Named after the schools in the area, Cory-Merril was founded in 1858 to be a “dry town: because its citizens din’t like the saloons that had taken over Denver. In the late 1940’s, a man named Mr. Armstrong donated part of his farmland to Denver Public Schools so that the district could build two new schools for the neighborhood – Cory Elementary and Merrill Junior High, named after John J. Cory and Louise A. Merrill, two influential Denver Educators.
During the same time period, a developer named Les Tremblay purchased plots around the schools in order to build tract homes for World War II soldiers coming home from the war. These single-story Les Tremblay houses became the Cory-Merrill neighborhood.
Today, the Cory-Merrill neighborhood is growing rapidly. A five-year rebuild of I-25 gave the neighborhood light rail service, and it’s central location between downtown Denver and the Tech Center makes it a popular location for Denver professionals (www.corymerrill.org).

Cory-Merrill is across the street from Veterans Park, a grassy area featuring a softball/baseball field, playground equipment, and a community center. The neighborhood is also only a few blogs away from All-City Stadium, used primarily for high school football games.
Directly along the eastern border, in Virginia Village, you can find other local food spots including Thai Pan Traditional Thai Cuisine, Thai Pot Cafe, Modern Market Eatery, and neighborhood hangout Viale Pizza & Kitchen.
