The Baker neighborhood is a diverse and dynamic neighborhood located in the urban core of Denver, Colorado. First plotted and developed in the 1870s, Baker has played a central role in the history of Denver.
Today Baker enjoys a number of qualities and characteristics that make it a vibrant urban neighborhood including a diverse urban population, a number of preserved historic homes, proximity to Broadway’s Main Street development that gives way to diverse shopping, casual and fine dining, an array of entertainment, and access to mass transit (BHOA).
In 1985, the Baker Historic District was officially listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Since then, Baker has become one of the most popular areas for families and young professionals to reside in Denver (DPL) .

Baker is home to many renowned art galleries, including the SPACE Gallery, which was voted one of Denver’s best art galleries. The Mayan Theater, a very unique theater building that is registered as a city landmark, is also located in Baker.
Baker is only blocks away from Denver’s infamous First Friday Sante Fe Art Walk, a monthly event that is a staple of Denver’s Art District.
- James Beckwourth, a former slave and a noted mountaineer, fur trader, and explorer for whom Denver’s James P. Beckwourth Mountain Club is named.
- Mi Casa Resource Center, located in Baker, was one of four nonprofit organizations to receive a grant from JPMorgan Chase during Denver Startup Week.
- Twenty structures within the Baker neighborhood are listed as having architectural or historical significance in the Denver Inventory.
- Since 2013, the Baker Home Owners Association hosts a yearly Neighborhood Home Tour designed to celebrate Baker’s rich history and support the community.
- A portion of the proceeds from the Baker Neighborhood Home Tour is donated to DCIS at Fairmont (elementary school).
